From 27 September 2026, a new EU rule requires every online shop that sells physical goods to consumers in the EU to display a standardised Legal Guarantee Label. It informs shoppers about their statutory guarantee rights, clearly and consistently, before they buy. We're already working on making this available for Jimdo Store shops, in the right place and fully compliant, before the deadline. Here's what it is, whether it applies to you, and what to do right now.
What is the Legal Guarantee Label?
It's a mandatory, legally prescribed notice, not a marketing badge, that tells your customers about their statutory guarantee rights.
Across the EU, consumer goods carry a legal guarantee of at least two years. Its design, colours, and wording are fully standardised and can't be changed.
It typically includes:
- The statutory minimum guarantee period of two years
- A note that some EU countries allow longer periods, and that different rules can apply to used goods
- Examples of when a guarantee case applies (e.g. the product doesn't match its description, or doesn't work properly)
- The customer's possible rights: free repair, free replacement, price reduction, or refund
- A QR code linking to the EU's "Your Europe" portal
Until now, referencing statutory rights in your terms and conditions was enough.
From 27 September 2026, that's no longer sufficient, the label has to be shown actively, in colour, and clearly visible before the purchase is completed.
Who does this apply to?
Any business selling physical goods to consumers (B2C) in the EU through an ecommerce shop, mobile views, apps, or any other digital sales channel.
There's no exemption for small businesses or solo self-employed people, regardless of revenue or team size.
Selling through platforms like Amazon, eBay, or Etsy doesn't change your responsibility.
Pure B2B transactions aren't affected.
Where the label needs to appear
Clearly visible on the product page or in the checkout process, not hidden behind a link or a mouse-over.
It needs to be also included in the order confirmation, on a durable medium (e.g. as a PDF attached to the confirmation email), a link alone isn't enough.
Do you need to do anything right now?
Note: Not yet, for the label itself. Nothing changes on your site yet, and there's nothing to set up today.

What about the GARAN label?
You may also see mentions of a "GARAN" label.
This is a separate EU label that only applies when a product's manufacturer offers a free guarantee of more than two years on the whole product, so it isn't required for most shops.
It's not available in Jimdo Store yet.

Does this apply to my shop?
Yes, if you sell physical goods to consumers in the EU; regardless of your revenue or business size. It doesn't apply if you only sell digital products/services, or don't sell to EU consumers. Pure B2B sales aren't affected.
What is the GARAN label, and do I need it?
