In the second part of the tutorial, you will learn how to find the right keywords for your website and how to optimize your texts specifically for search engines.
How do you research keywords and what do you need them for?
Keyword research is the core of your SEO strategy. Keywords are search terms that users enter into search engines. They help search engines understand under which terms your website should be found.
Take enough time to research the right keywords. You can find important details about selecting keywords and helpful tools in our blog article:
You can then enter up to 5 keywords in edit mode under Website Builder > Search Engines. Use them there as a reminder for your optimization.
Where should you optimize the texts on your website?
The most important place for your keywords is the text on your website. Search engines analyze this content to determine the relevance of your pages. Therefore, optimize each subpage for one main topic.
Make sure your texts sound as natural as possible. Pure keyword collections appear unnatural and can negatively affect your ranking.
The quality of your content and the so called user intent are also crucial. Think about which questions visitors might have and answer them clearly and understandably.
The structure of your page also plays an important role. Each subpage should contain one main heading H1. It describes the topic of the page and ideally includes the main keyword.
For additional headings, use H2 or H3. Include suitable variations or synonyms of your main keyword. Avoid repeating the exact same keyword in every heading.
In a Jimdo website, you can use the following headings:
- H1: Large heading
- H2: Medium heading
- H3: Small heading
Make sure that each heading is followed by body text. A sequence of headings without text looks unclear and is not evaluated positively by search engines.

Why do you need customized page titles and page descriptions?
The page title appears in Google search results as a clickable link. You can define it under Marketing > SEO. It is also displayed in the browser tab.
Each subpage automatically receives its own title, which is generated from the name of the page, for example About me.
For the homepage, you can set an individual title under Title for the homepage. This ensures it remains clearly recognizable in your navigation while standing out in search results. Ideally, include your main keyword here.
The page description, also called the meta description, appears below the page title in search results. It should convince users to visit your website and is an important part of your SEO strategy.
A general guideline is a length of approximately 130 to 156 characters. Adjust each description to match the topic of the respective subpage.
You can edit it under Marketing > SEO > Website description.
The descriptions for individual subpages are automatically generated from the first text field on the respective page. Regular text fields take priority over title text.
