If you have seen a Withdraw contract button on a website or already used it, this article answers the most common questions. It explains what happens after you submit a withdrawal and what to expect next.
What is the withdrawal button?
The withdrawal button is a legal tool required across the EU from 19 June 2026.
It allows consumers in the EU to formally withdraw from a contract concluded online with a seller. You can do this in two steps, without writing a letter or sending an email. The seller is automatically notified.
Is clicking the button the same as getting a refund?
No. Clicking the button only submits your withdrawal declaration.
This means you inform the seller that you want to exercise your right of withdrawal. The seller then checks if a right to withdrawal exists. If it does, the seller processes the refund separately
What happens after I confirm the withdrawal?
After confirming:
- Your declaration is sent to the seller
- You receive a confirmation email within a few minutes. Check your spam folder if you don’t receive it after a few minutes.
- The seller receives a notification email with your withdrawal details
Keep the confirmation email, as it serves as proof of your request.
Does the confirmation email mean my withdrawal was accepted?
No. The email only confirms that your request was submitted.
The seller must still check whether the right of withdrawal applies to your specific order.
Who handles my refund and return?
The seller is responsible, not Jimdo.
If the withdrawal is valid, the seller will:
- Process your refund within 14 days
- Handle any return of goods if required
For updates, contact the seller directly.
Did the seller receive my request?
Yes. The notification is sent automatically.
If you have questions about the status, you need to contact the seller. Jimdo cannot follow up on your behalf.
Can I cancel a withdrawal after submitting it?
No. Once you confirm the withdrawal, it is sent immediately.
If you change your mind, contact the seller directly.
Can Jimdo retrieve my previous withdrawal?
No. Jimdo does not store withdrawal requests. Your confirmation email is your only record.
I did not receive a confirmation email. What should I do?
First, check your spam or junk folder.
If the email is still missing, contact the seller. They should have received the notification and can follow up if needed.
Why is the button shown even if my purchase might not qualify?
The seller decides whether the button is shown.
Whether your purchase is actually eligible for withdrawal depends on the law and the contract. The seller reviews this after receiving your request.
Is the withdrawal button the same as cancelling a subscription?
No. These are different actions:
- A withdrawal cancels a contract completely, as if the purchase never existed
- A cancellation ends an ongoing contract for the future
What if the seller does not respond or refuses my withdrawal?
This must be resolved between you and the seller.
If needed, you can contact a consumer protection organization in your country for advice. Jimdo cannot intervene.
Where is my data stored?
Your request is sent to the seller by email. Jimdo does not store a copy. Your confirmation email is your only record.
What is Jimdo’s role?
Jimdo provides the tool:
- The withdrawal button
- The form
- The automated emails
Jimdo does not:
- Process withdrawals
- Handle refunds
- Mediate disputes
- Decide whether your withdrawal is valid
