Forward your domain using a CNAME forwarding to keep using services like email accounts with your domain provider.
1. Add your domain
Before setting up the CNAME forwarding, add your domain to your Jimdo website first.
- Log in to your Jimdo account and choose your website
- Click on Website Builder Domains in the left menu
- Scroll down and click Forward
- Enter your domain and click Next
- Copy the information shown under CNAME
More information: How do I forward a domain to my website
2. Set up the CNAME at your domain provider
Go to your domain provider and paste the copied values.
The CNAME record should look like this:
www.yourdomain.xx CNAME web.jimdosite.com.
Replace yourdomain.xx with your own domain.
Make sure the record ends with a dot. In most cases this is added automatically.
Example
The target must always be web.jimdosite.com.
A domain forwarded via CNAME cannot point to a specific subpage of your Jimdo website. It will always open the homepage.
3. Create a 301 redirect
Set up a 301 redirect so your domain works without www.
Source: yourdomain.xx
Target: www.yourdomain.xx
The name may vary depending on your provider, for example domain redirect.
If you have issues, contact your domain provider support. Jimdo cannot assist with external settings.
Notes
- It can take up to 24 hours for changes to take effect
- Some providers require a separate SSL certificate activation
SSL certificate for CNAME forwarding
- An SSL certificate is automatically created for the www subdomain
- For the root domain, a 301 redirect is required
- Missing SSL is usually caused by incorrect DNS settings
- Activation happens automatically after successful connection
