How can I forward my domain via nameservers?

Connect your domain via nameservers to use it with your Jimdo website while keeping it with your domain provider.

1. Add your domain

Before changing the nameservers, add your domain to your Jimdo website.

  1. Log in to your Jimdo account and choose your website
  2. Click on Website Builder Domains
  3. Scroll down and click Forward
  4. Enter your domain and click Next
  5. Copy the information under nameservers

⚠️ Before you choose this option: with nameserver forwarding, your root domain (e.g. yourdomain.xx without www) cannot receive an SSL certificate. For technical reasons, this currently isn't possible. Visitors who leave out the www will see a security error in their browser. 

We recommend using CNAME forwarding instead, since it supports both the root domain and the www version. Only use nameserver forwarding if CNAME forwarding isn't possible for your setup (for example, if you don't use an external email account and don't need the root domain to work without www).

For domains hosted at Squarespace, use a CNAME forwarding.

2. Change the nameservers

Set the following nameservers at your domain provider:

ns13.jimdo.com
ns14.jimdo.com

It can take up to 24 hours for the connection to become active.

If you have issues, contact your domain provider. Jimdo cannot assist with external settings.

Can I redirect a domain registered with Jimdo to an external website

No, this is not possible. Domains registered with Jimdo or transferred to Jimdo cannot be redirected to external websites.

These domains can only be used with a Jimdo website.

Can I configure custom DNS settings for my domain registered with Jimdo

No, custom DNS settings are not available for domains registered with Jimdo or transferred to Jimdo.

All DNS records are managed automatically by Jimdo and cannot be edited manually.

If you need custom DNS settings or want to point your domain to an external website, you should keep the domain with your provider and consider alternatives such as CNAME.

Why doesn't my domain work without www after nameserver forwarding

This is expected. With nameserver forwarding, we don't issue an SSL certificate for the root domain. Only the www version of your domain will work correctly.

If you need the root domain to work as well, use CNAME forwarding instead.
