If your images look fine on desktop but appear cropped or cut off on mobile, this is usually due to how Jimdo adapts images to different screen sizes. You can adjust how the image is displayed directly in the editor and improve the result with a few simple changes.
Why does this happen?
Jimdo uses a responsive layout that automatically adapts your content to different screen sizes. When an image is used as a background or inside a full width area, it is cropped to fit smaller screens.
This is expected behaviour. The image is not broken, it is simply displayed differently than on desktop.
The most common causes:
- The image is used as a background for a section, not as a regular image element
- The image has a tall or portrait aspect ratio that does not fit well into a wide mobile view
- The important part of the image is placed near the edges and may be cut off on smaller screens
Adjust the crop of an image
You can control which part of the image stays visible by setting a focal point directly in the editor.
- Log in to your Jimdo account and select the website you want to edit
- Open the editor via Edit website
- Select the image you want to adjust
- Open the Set focal point option using the corresponding icon
- Define which part of the image should remain visible by selecting the area or moving the focal point while holding down the mouse button
- Click anywhere outside the image to apply the changes
Tip: Set the focal point to the centre of your subject, for example a face or logo, so it stays visible on all screen sizes.
Tips for choosing images that work well on mobile
- For images with text, logos, or portrait formats, use an About block. These blocks scale the image instead of cropping it, so the full image remains visible
- Use wide images for section backgrounds, as portrait images are cropped more strongly on mobile
- Avoid placing text, logos, or other important information directly inside images. Use the text elements in the block instead so your content stays readable
- Use the mobile preview in the editor before publishing to check how the image looks
Still looks wrong?
If you have adjusted the focal point and the image still does not look right on mobile, try the following:
- Replace the image with one that has a wider aspect ratio
- Use a plain colour or gradient background instead of an image for that section
