By adding a second domain to your website, you can make it accessible via an alternative address. This is useful for covering different spellings or variations of your domain name. Please note: for .de domains and so called gTLDs, you will need to verify your data via email before the domain is fully registered.
Add a second domain
- Choose Website Builder > Domains in the left menu
- Click the Add a domain button underneath your domains
- Pick a suggested domain or click Browse more options to enter a specific domain name
- Proceed through the steps that follow. Please note that you will be asked for payment before entering the registration data.
Verify your data
After completing the registration form, an additional step is required:
- For .de domains and gTLDs, you will receive an email with a verification link.
- Open the email and click the verification link to confirm your data.
- Your domain will only be registered after you complete this verification.
If you do not complete the verification within 14 days, the domain will not be activated.
Your domain will appear with the status Pending in your dashboard until the process is completed.
The registration process is usually completed within 24 hours after verification.
What are gTLDs?
gTLD stands for generic Top Level Domain. These are domain extensions that are not tied to a specific country.
Examples include:
- .com
- .net
- .org
- .info
- .biz
These domains are managed by international organizations such as ICANN.
Country specific domains like .de are managed by national authorities such as Denic.
Notes
- You must follow general registration rules defined by the responsible registry, for example ICANN or Denic.
- Find supported domain extensions here:
Which domain extensions are supported? - After registration, you can choose which domain should be your primary domain:
How can I change the primary domain? - gTLDs are subject to a 60-day transfer lock after certain changes (e.g. new registration, owner change, or provider switch). This restriction is enforced by ICANN and cannot be removed by Jimdo.
