You can refund payments you received from your customers through your Jimdo website. Where you issue the refund depends on how your payments are set up: if you set up payments in your dashboard, you refund them directly under Payments. If you use your own Stripe account, you refund them in Stripe. PayPal payments are always refunded in PayPal. This article refers only to payments made by your customers to you, not payments you made to Jimdo.

Understanding refunds
Your payments are set up in one of two ways. Each website uses one of them, never both:
Payments set up in your dashboard
You manage your payments directly in Jimdo, so you also issue refunds there. You don't need to log in to a separate payment provider account.
Your own Stripe account
If your website is connected to your own Stripe account, you issue refunds in your Stripe dashboard.
In both cases, the refund is sent back to your customer using the original payment method. If your customer paid with PayPal, you always issue the refund in your PayPal account.
Not sure which setup you use? See Getting Started with Payments.
Refund in your dashboard
If you set up payments in your dashboard, you can issue refunds directly in Jimdo.
Step by step
- Log in to your Jimdo account
- In your dashboard, click on Payments in the left menu
- Select the relevant customer payment
- Click Refund and confirm the amount
You can see the status of your refunds under Payments.
Refund via your own Stripe account
If your website is connected to your own Stripe account and your customer paid via Stripe, you can issue the refund in your Stripe dashboard.
Step by step
- Log in to your Stripe account
- Go to the Payments section
- Select the relevant customer payment
- Click Refund and confirm the amount

Refund via PayPal
If your customer paid via PayPal, you can issue the refund in your PayPal account. This applies to both payment setups, because PayPal payments only appear in your PayPal account.
Step by step
- Log in to your PayPal account
- Go to Activity
- Select the relevant customer transaction
- Click Issue a refund
More information: PayPal: Issue a refund
Important notes
- Refunds apply only to payments you received from your customers via your Jimdo website
- Refunds must always be issued where the payment was received: under Payments in your dashboard, in your own Stripe account or in PayPal
- Only completed payments can be refunded
- Processing times depend on the payment method your customer used
- Partial refunds may be available depending on the payment method
Important: Refunding a payment doesn't cancel the related booking or order, and cancelling a booking or order doesn't refund the payment. If you want to do both, you need to complete each step separately.
