You can offer your customers more flexibility at checkout by enabling alternative payment methods. You manage these options directly in your Jimdo dashboard without logging into Stripe, while Stripe handles all payments, transactions, and refunds in the background.
What are Alternative Payment Methods?
Alternative Payment Methods are payment options beyond standard credit and debit cards. Depending on your country and Stripe setup, these may include:
- Klarna (Buy Now, Pay Later or instalments)
- Apple Pay
- Google Pay
- iDEAL (available in the Netherlands)
- Bancontact (available in Belgium)
- SEPA Direct Debit
Offering multiple payment options can help reduce checkout drop offs and improve conversions.
Country specific availability
Available payment methods vary by country. Examples include:
- Germany / Austria: Klarna, Apple Pay, Google Pay, SEPA Direct Debit
- Netherlands: iDEAL, Klarna, Apple Pay, Google Pay
- Belgium: Bancontact, Klarna, Apple Pay, Google Pay
Availability depends on your Stripe account and may change over time.
Before you start
To use alternative payment methods via Stripe, you need:
- An active Stripe connection
- Payments set up in your Jimdo dashboard
Go to Dashboard > Payments > Settings > Payment providers and connect your Stripe account if needed.
Important: PayPal works independently and does not support these payment methods.
Manage Alternative Payment Methods in your dashboard
You can enable or disable payment methods directly in your Jimdo dashboard:
- Go to Dashboard > Payments
- Open Settings
- Select Payment providers
- Under Stripe, click Customize payment methods
A panel opens where you can see all available payment methods and toggle them on or off. Changes apply immediately at checkout.
Enabling a payment method does not guarantee that it will be shown to every customer.
Which payment methods are shown at checkout?
Stripe automatically determines which payment methods are displayed based on:
- Your customer’s location
- Their device or browser
- The checkout currency
- The payment methods you have enabled
This means different customers may see different options. Some methods are only available in specific countries, and availability may change over time.
Default active payment methods
Some payment methods are enabled by default:
- Credit and debit cards
- Klarna
- Apple Pay (on supported devices)
- Google Pay (on supported devices and browsers)
- SEPA Direct Debit
You can disable these at any time in your dashboard.
Payment processing and transactions
Even though you manage payment methods in Jimdo, Stripe processes all payments and manages transactions and statuses. Jimdo only displays available options at checkout.
Payment status may differ depending on the method:
- Instant: Payment is confirmed immediately
- Pending: Common for bank based methods
- Failed or expired: Payment was not completed
Always check the latest payment status in your Stripe dashboard.
Refunds and payment issues
Refunds are handled entirely in Stripe. Start refunds in your Stripe dashboard.
Processing time depends on the payment method, and some methods do not support partial refunds.
If a refund option is unavailable, this is a Stripe limitation.

Jimdo:

Can I control which payment methods are offered?
Yes. You enable or disable methods in your Jimdo dashboard. Stripe decides which are shown based on factors like location, device, and currency.
