You can transfer your domain to Jimdo and connect it to your paid website in just a few steps. Before starting, make sure you have your AuthCode and understand that both .de domains and many global domains (gTLDs like .com or .net) require email verification to confirm ownership before the transfer begins.
Important note
- You can use up to three domains with your Jimdo website. That’s two domains that were registered at Jimdo or were transferred to Jimdo (internal domains) and one forwarded domain that is with another provider (external domain). In case you’ve already registered two domains with your Jimdo website, then you can set up a domain redirect over at your current domain host.
- In order to transfer your domain to Jimdo, you’ll need the AuthCode from your previous domain host. Depending on the domain provider, the methods for acquiring said AuthCode might differ. You should be able to get the details from your current domain provider (or from their online help).
- Please back up the contents of any email accounts connected to your domain. Your email accounts won’t be available after starting the transfer and have to be set up again once the transfer is successfully completed.
- You can transfer domains with different domain extensions to Jimdo. Make sure your domain has one of these endings.
- Was the domain that you'd like to transfer registered using our Creator website builder? Then please get in touch with our support team, so we can help you transfer your domain
- A gTLD (generic top level domain) is the ending of a domain name that is used worldwide and not tied to a specific country. For example, in yourjimdowebsite.com, the part .com is the gTLD.
Common gTLDs include .com, .net, .org, or .info. These are often used for businesses, personal websites, or organizations and can be registered by anyone, regardless of location.
This is different from country specific domains like .de (Germany) or .fr (France), which are associated with a specific country.
Begin the domain transfer process
- Log in to your Jimdo account and choose the desired website
- Click on Website Builder > Domains in the left menu
- Click the Transfer button at the bottom
- Enter your own domain and click Transfer
- Read and confirm the checkboxes, then enter the AuthCode
- Check the domain ownership data
- Click on Start Transfer
Note:
For .de domains and many gTLDs (such as .com, .net, or .org), you will receive an email to verify your domain owner data after entering it. The transfer will only be initiated once you have successfully completed this verification.
The domain transfer usually takes 1 to 5 days.
Error message DOMAIN_ALREADY_EXIST – What does it mean?
The message DOMAIN_ALREADY_EXIST appears if the domain is already set up as a forwarding domain in a Jimdo account. In this case, a transfer is not possible because the domain already exists.
Before you can start the transfer, you need to remove the existing domain from your Jimdo account. To do so, click on Domains in the left menu and then click the three dots next to the domain.
If the domain was previously used in another Jimdo account, it must first be removed from that account. Only then can you restart the transfer process.
After deleting the domain, please wait a few minutes and then start the transfer again.
Transferring a second domain to Jimdo
If you’re already using one internal domain that is registered at Jimdo, then please proceed as follows to transfer your domain to Jimdo:
- Click on Website Builder > Domains in the left menu
- Click the See more options button underneath your domains
- On the next screen, click Browse more options, followed by Continue
- Then follow the procedure described above from step 5 onwards.
Please note that you’ll be asked for payment before entering the domain transfer data
