Guide: Transfer a domain to Jimdo

You want to transfer your domain from your previous provider to Jimdo and connect it to your paid Jimdo website? No problem!

Important note

  • You can use up to three domains with your Jimdo website. That’s two domains that were registered at Jimdo or were transferred to Jimdo (internal domains) and one forwarded domain that is with another provider (external domain). In case you’ve already registered two domains with your Jimdo website, then you can set up a domain redirect over at your current domain host.
  • In order to transfer your domain to Jimdo, you’ll need the AuthCode from your previous domain host. Depending on the domain provider, the methods for acquiring said AuthCode might differ. You should be able to get the details from your current domain provider (or from their online help).
  • Please back up the contents of any email accounts connected to your domain. Your email accounts won’t be available after starting the transfer and have to be set up again once the transfer is successfully completed.
  • You can transfer domains with different domain extensions to Jimdo. Make sure your domain has one of these endings.

Begin the domain transfer process

  1. Log in to your Jimdo account and choose the desired website
  2. Click on Website Builder > Domains in the left menu
  3. Click the Transfer button at the bottom
  4. Enter your own domain and click Transfer
  5. Read and confirm the checkboxes, then enter the AuthCode
  6. Check the domain ownership data
  7. Click on Start Transfer

The domain transfer usually takes 1-5 days.

Transferring a second domain to Jimdo

If you’re already using one internal domain that is registered at Jimdo, then please proceed as follows to transfer your domain to Jimdo:

  1. Click on Website Builder > Domains in the left menu
  2. Click the See more options button that will appear underneath your domains
  3. On the next screen, click Browse more options, followed by the Continue button
  4. Then follow the procedure described in the instructions above from step 5 onwards.
    Please note that you’ll be asked for payment before entering the domain transfer data
