If your Jimdo website isn’t displaying correctly, individual blocks aren’t loading, or you’re running into another issue, the cause is often local browser settings, extensions, or security software. The steps below will help you fix most issues quickly on your own.
For issues with your domain redirect, email forwarding or a third-party email account, you’ll find dedicated guides in our Help Center.
Important: In over 80% of cases, steps 1–4 solve the problem. Please always start here
1. Clear the browser cache
Open instructions
Why this matters:
Clearing the cache forces your browser to reload all files (images,
etc.) from the server. This fixes display issues
caused by outdated, corrupted, or incompatible files.
How to:
Clear your browser’s cache completely
(entire time range) and delete
all cookies. Then restart the browser
and also check whether the issue occurs in a different browser.
2. Use Incognito/Private mode
Open instructions
Why this helps:
In Incognito/Private mode the browser runs in a neutral state
(no old cookies/cache and usually no extensions).
This helps you check whether locally stored data is causing the
issue.
Desktop guide:
- Chrome/Edge: Menu (top right) → New Incognito/InPrivate window.
- Firefox: Menu (top right) → New Private Window.
- Safari (Mac): Menu → New Private Window.
Mobile guide:
- iOS (Safari): Open tab overview → select Private → +.
- iOS (Chrome/Edge/Firefox): Menu … → New Incognito/Private tab.
- Android (Chrome/Edge/Firefox): Menu ⋮ → New Incognito/Private tab.
3. Update your browser
Open instructions
Why this is important:
Updates fix bugs, close security gaps, and support modern website
features. Many issues are caused by outdated
browser versions.
Desktop guide:
- Chrome/Edge: Menu (⋮) → Help → About Google Chrome/Microsoft Edge → update starts automatically.
- Firefox: Menu (☰) → Help → About Firefox → install update.
- Safari (Mac): → System Settings → Software Update → Safari updates via macOS.
Restart the browser after updating.
Mobile guide:
- iOS (Safari): Settings → General → Software Update (Safari updates with iOS).
- iOS (Chrome/Edge/Firefox): App Store → Profile → Available Updates → Update the app.
- Android (Chrome/Edge/Firefox): Play Store → Profile icon → Manage apps & device → Updates available → Update the app.
Restart the browser after updating.
4. Try another browser
Open instructions
What this tells you:
If it works there, the issue is with the original browser — for
example due to a setting or extension.
How to:
Open your Jimdo website in a different browser and check if the
issue appears there as well. Make sure you’re using
the latest version. You can find an overview of supported browsers
in our
system requirements.
The following steps are only necessary if the basic measures (steps 1–4) were not successful
Browser settings
5. Reset zoom level
Open instructions
Why this matters:
A zoom level that’s too high or too low can shift layouts, hide
controls, or mis-scale media. 100% restores the
default view.
How to:
Make sure your browser’s zoom is set to 100%.
Shortcuts: Ctrl + 0 (Windows) or
⌘ + 0 (Mac).
6. Allow cookies
Open instructions
Why cookies matter:
If cookies are blocked, parts of your Jimdo website may not load
or be editable. They store things like your login
and page preferences.
Desktop guide:
- Chrome/Edge: Settings → Privacy and security → Cookies and other site data → Allow all cookies.
- Firefox: Settings → Privacy & Security → section Cookies and Site Data → allow cookies.
- Safari (Mac): Safari menu → Settings → Privacy → make sure Block all cookies is not enabled.
Mobile guide:
- iOS (Safari): Settings → Safari → Block All Cookies must be off.
- iOS (Chrome/Edge/Firefox): Follows Safari/system setting; make sure cookies aren’t blocked in Safari.
- Android (Chrome/Edge/Firefox): Settings → Site settings → Cookies → Allow.
7. Disable browser extensions
Open instructions
Why this can help:
Extensions such as ad-blocker or security tools can block features
and content required by your Jimdo site.
Desktop guide:
- Chrome/Edge: Menu (⋮) → Extensions → problematic extension (e.g., Adblock Plus) → Disable/Remove.
- Firefox: Menu (☰) → Add-ons and themes → Extensions → select extension → Disable.
- Safari (Mac): Safari menu → Settings → Extensions → disable or remove.
Mobile guide:
- iOS (Safari): Settings → Safari → Extensions/Content Blockers → temporarily disable.
- iOS (Chrome/Edge/Firefox): No classic extensions; check any system-wide filter/blocker apps.
- Android (Firefox): Settings → Add-ons → disable problematic add-ons.
- Android (Chrome/Edge): No classic extensions; check any ad-blocker/DNS filter apps or Private DNS settings.
8. Enable JavaScript
Open instructions
What JavaScript does:
JavaScript is required for many dynamic parts of your website,
such as the menu, image galleries, or shop features. If it’s
disabled, essential features are missing and content
may not display correctly.
Desktop guide:
- Chrome/Edge: Settings → Privacy and security → Site settings → enable JavaScript.
-
Firefox: (Advanced users only) In
about:configensurejavascript.enabledis set totrue. - Safari (Mac): Safari menu → Settings → Security → check Enable JavaScript.
Mobile guide:
- iOS (Safari): JavaScript is on by default; check Settings → Safari → Content Blockers/Extensions and temporarily disable blockers.
- iOS (Chrome/Edge/Firefox): No separate JavaScript toggle; check any content blocker/filter apps.
- Android (Chrome/Edge/Firefox): Settings → Site settings → JavaScript → Allow.
9. Disable script-blockers
Open instructions
Why this matters:
Script-blockers (e.g., NoScript) prevent essential scripts from
running. Turn them off temporarily to see whether
blocked resources are the cause.
Desktop guide:
- Chrome/Edge: Extensions → script-blocker (e.g., NoScript) → Disable/Remove.
- Firefox: Add-ons and themes → Extensions → script-blocker → Disable.
- Safari (Mac): Settings → Extensions → disable or remove the script-blocker.
Mobile guide:
- iOS (Safari): Settings → Safari → Content Blockers/Extensions → disable blockers.
- iOS (Chrome/Edge/Firefox): No script-blocker extensions; check filter apps (e.g., DNS blockers) and disable them temporarily.
- Android (Firefox): Settings → Add-ons → disable script-blockers.
- Android (Chrome/Edge): No script-blocker extensions; check system-wide ad-blocker/DNS filter apps.
System & connection
10. Test another device or network
Open instructions
What this tells you:
This helps you identify whether the issue is caused by the device
(e.g., settings)
or the network (firewall, DNS settings, etc.), and narrow down
the source.
How to:
Open your Jimdo website on a different device or over a different
network (e.g., Wi-Fi or mobile data). If the issue
only occurs on the original device/network, that’s likely the
cause.
11. Clear the DNS cache
Open instructions
Why this helps:
An outdated DNS cache can keep your Jimdo website from loading
correctly. Clear your device’s DNS cache to check if
that’s the cause.
How to:
-
Windows: Open Command Prompt and run
ipconfig /flushdns. -
macOS: Open Terminal and run
sudo dscacheutil -flushcache; sudo killall -HUP mDNSResponder. -
Linux (varies by distribution):
sudo systemd-resolve --flush-caches.
Security & access
12. Check your security software
Open instructions
Why this is relevant:
Some antivirus or security tools block scripts and prevent you
from editing your Jimdo website.
How to:
- Open your security software’s settings (e.g., Kaspersky, Norton).
- Check the Web protection or firewall section.
- Make sure content and scripts from Jimdo are allowed.
13. Check firewall settings
Open instructions
Why this can help:
Firewalls can block access to your Jimdo website. Review your
firewall settings (Windows, macOS, or router) and allow
access to Jimdo if needed.
How to:
- Open your firewall’s settings.
- Check whether connections to Jimdo are being blocked.
- Allow access and/or add an exception.
14. Temporarily disable your VPN
Open instructions
Why this can help:
VPNs change your internet route and can slow down connections
or block content, especially when connecting from abroad.
Desktop guide:
- General: Open your VPN client → disconnect.
- Windows: Settings → Network & Internet → VPN → select connection → Disconnect.
- macOS: System Settings → VPN (or Network) → select connection → Disconnect.
Mobile guide:
- iOS: Settings → VPN (or in your VPN app) → disconnect.
- Android: Settings → Network & Internet → VPN → select connection → Disconnect (or in the VPN app).
